About Welcare

Welcare is an Eye Care Organization promoted by Ophthalmologists. From humble beginnings Welcare has grown to become the No 1 Ophthalmic Diagnostic Service provider in India through hard work passion and constant Innovation.

Welcare provides Eye screening services within existing health centers making them accessible to patients at high-risk for eye diseases (such as diabetes) which could lead to blindness. Welcare leverages new methodology for the screenings and keeps costs low by having our Ophthalmologists working remotely.

Our Story

Welcare was born out of a dire need for innovation in India’s eye screening space .In India there are nine ophthalmologists for every million people, as compared to the U.S., where there are 81 ophthalmologists for every million people. There are 60 million people in India affected by diabetes, of which one in every four people will have diabetic retinopathy, an illness which damages the retina due to complications caused by diabetes. Less than 5% of these patients gets screened by Ophthalmologists. This led the promoters of Welcare Health Systems Dr. Senthil and Dr. Malathi to turn healthcare entrepreneurs and setup Welcare Health Systems (WHS), an affordable eye screening (Diagnostics/Treatment) startup. Literally, every person on the road needs to be tested for diabetic retinopathy.

Welcare has identified services which are innovative and can reach out to the population on a large scale and prevent Blindness .Welcare sets up eye screening services within existing health centers making them accessible to patients at high-risk for eye diseases (such as diabetes) and Paediatric Vision Problems which could lead to blindness. Welcare leverages new methodology for the screenings and keeps costs low by having Ophthalmologists working remotely

Welcare works in association with Partner Centers through a financially viable Healthcare Model. Welcare provides partner healthcare organizations with all support to start the Screening Services in the Centre and provide a valuable service to their patients.
